Moving? Get Your House Ready
Making an Inventory List of What You’ve Got
It’s time to move! Before you pack up your boxes, make an inventory list of all the items in your home and then contact out of state movers that will help you with the process. Don’t forget about those things that are tucked away in closets or deep storage bins. You don’t want to find out later that you left something important behind. Take pictures and video with your phone for quick reference when unpacking at the new house – it also helps create a record of what was there before you moved!
The first thing you’ll want to do is make a list of all the rooms in your house and what’s in them. This will help you stay organized when packing and give you an idea of how much stuff you actually have. Here are some tips for each room:
Kitchen: Make sure to inventory your pots, pans, dishes, silverware, food storage containers, oven mitts/tongs, spices, etc.
Living Room: List all the furniture pieces including sofas, chairs, tables, lamps, rugs, etc. Don’t forget about electronics like TVs and stereo systems!
Bedroom: Take pictures or video of your bed (frame + mattress), dressers, nightstands, closets – including the contents!
Bathroom: Make a list of all your toiletries – including makeup, razors, hair products, etc.
Don’t forget about garage, attic and basement items! If you’re not taking everything with you to the new house, start thinking about where you might want to store things until you move.
Once you have an inventory list created, it’s time to start packing! The best way to avoid chaos is to pack one room at a time and make sure everything has a designated spot in the new house. Label boxes with what’s inside and keep them together so they’re easy to find when you unpack. With a little organization and preparation, moving can be a breeze!
