The first thing that you should know about your Medicare enrollment is that it happens once every year. This means that there are important dates related to this process each and every month, but the deadlines for making decisions will happen on specific days of the year. January 31 st
April 30 th
is the deadline! If you wait until April 30th to enroll in Medicare than unfortunately too much time has passed so now it’s necessary to wait another entire year before applying again. So remember these key dates: Enrollment opens September 30 th Ends December seventh January starts again January fifth Runs through March 31st And finally, we’ve included a quick reference guide below for you to keep on hand.
In addition to the deadlines, there are other things that you need to know in order to successfully enroll in Medicare. For instance, do you know what your options are? The program has four main parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans) and Part D (prescription drug coverage). You must have Parts A and B in order to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Prescription Drug Plan. If you want to keep your current insurance plan instead of choosing a new one through Medicare, then you can do so by signing up for only Parts A and B – known as Original Medicare.
