SENIOR VOCALS

Adjudicator:  Gemira McClary

Gemira McClary holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan. Additional studies have taken her to The Banff Centre, Johanason International School of the Arts in Victoria, and International Meetings of Chamber Music in Italy. She is active as a performer, adjudicator, and clinician and is a voice instructor for The Conservatory at Mount Royal College.

As a performer Miss McClary has recently enjoyed performing the role of ‘Hansel’ in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel,  ‘Miss Silverpeal’ in Mozart’s Impresario, and ‘The Witch’ in Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim.

Known for her musical diversity, Miss McClary is the vocalist for Ensemble Resonance, the resident quartet for New Works Calgary. The quartet performs and premieres Canadian music written for their unique combination of instruments: violin, clarinet, piano and voice. She is the cofounder of Dos Gardenias, a vocal and piano duo dedicated to the performance of classical Cuban and Spanish music, Swing Sisters, an ‘Andrew Sisters’ style ac capella duo, and Musica Noel, a Christmas jazz duo.

Miss McClary has toured with the Prairie Opera Company and has performed in concert for Red Box Productions, Jazz at the Jack, Millennium Music Foundation, Organ a la Carte, Glenbow Museum, Esther Honens Lecture Series, Spiritus, Alberta Music Conference, Cathedral of the Redeemer, New Works Calgary, Parkdale Presents, Gaslight Theatre, and the Calgary Girls Choir.

Miss McClary is very honoured and excited to be invited back to adjudicate at the Olds festival this year!
